Friday's Faith - "Get Out of Festivities, Free" Card

Friday's Faith

"Get Out of Festivities, Free" Card

As a child-loss griever, you don't know it, but you have been granted special privileges during the holidays. You have been awarded, just like in the game of Monopoly, a "Get out of Festivities Free" Card. And the beauty of it is it's permanent; it is not temporary. This card can be used year after year. But you will probably use it more during the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas than during any other time of year.

If indeed our lives have changed forever after the loss of a child, why shouldn't the shape of our so-called "holidays" change as well to reflect the status of our war-torn hearts? Just as no one can tell you how to grieve, so too, no one can tell you how to "party" during the sacred holidays.

What a beautiful time to return to the true meanings of the season instead of to the superfluous "fluff" that we heretofore always had gotten so caught up in without realizing it. Our lives have been forced to simplify to what is most important in life; so too should our holidays return to the main sentiment.

For us, that main sentiment is in the celebration of the Birth of our Lord. Birth and Death. That seems to be where we now live. And to think, because God gave His only Son to us to be born at Christmas and to die at Calvary, our child, Merry Katherine Prince was able to be born, to be born again, to die, and now to live again forever with her Lord. That gives cause for permanent thankfulness and celebration. Forever. And ever. Amen.

(Jesus declared,) "I tell you the truth, whoever hears My Word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

John 5:24 NIV
