Her Hearts Cry

Jesus Take the Wheel

~Carrie Underwood

Her Heart's Cry: "Jesus, Take the Wheel!"

It was August, just one year before

That very drastic day

When her driver let the car drift off

The road, taking her life away.

She and I were going to

The beach that we both so loved...

After two hard years

Of her acting out, she slipped this from its glove...

Put it in the truck's c.d. player for me to hear,

A c.d. entitled simply, "Believe,"

Playing the song that you'll hear here...

Less than one year later, she'd see her mommy grieve...

She played that song, her heart's cry;

She wanted me to know

That though her body acted out,

Her heart before her God was hurting so.

"Jesus take the wheel!" the song would play,

I teased her, "Wait, will this song end well?"

As songs she loved would oft depress her mommy's heart.

She laughed, assuring me it would, one year before I'd be living hell...

Two days after she was killed,

An intuitive friend of mine came by to grieve:

"I think Merry Katherine wants you to have this,"

And she handed me a metal scripted word that simply said,

"Believe."

My friend had no clue of the incident I just shared,

And at the time, I didn't quickly clue in either.

But later when before my Lord, my heart was bared,

I got her message from Heaven, to her Mommy, now a griever...

And though now I'm living hell,

Hurting, missing her, and just wanting her near,

Thankfully my precious child revealed her heart,

And though I'm hurting, I must admit,

Even though we are temporarily apart,

"Yes, her story truly does end... Well!"

Lyrics

Songwriters: James, Brett; Lindsey, Hillary; Sampson, Gordie;

She was driving last Friday on her way to Cincinnati

On a snow white Christmas Eve

Going home to see her Mama and her Daddy

With the baby in the backseat

Fifty miles to go and she was running low

On faith and gasoline

It'd been a long hard year

She had a lot on her mind and she didn't pay attention

She was going way too fast

Before she knew it she was spinning

On a thin black sheet of glass

She saw both their lives flash before her eyes

She didn't even have time to cry

She was so scared

She threw her hands up in the air

Jesus, take the wheel

Take it from my hands

'Cause I can't do this on my own

I'm letting go

So give me one more chance

To save me from this road I'm on

Jesus, take the wheel

It was still getting colder when she made it to the shoulder

And the car came to a stop

She cried when she saw that baby in the backseat

Sleeping like a rock

And for the first time in a long time

She bowed her head to pray

She said I'm sorry for the way

I've been living my life

I know I've got to change

So from now on tonight

Jesus, take the wheel

Take it from my hands

'Cause I can't do this on my own

I'm letting go

So give me one more chance

To save me from this road I'm on

Oh Jesus, take the wheel

Oh, I'm letting go

So give me one more chance

Save me from this road I'm on

From this road I'm on

Jesus, take the wheel

Oh, take it, take it from me

Oh, why, ooh
